The Oilfields Drillers are making the most of a provincial opportunity this week.

Oilfields has won two games to advance to the medal round at the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association 2A Girls Basketball Provincial Championships at Calgary’s Rundle College.

Oilfields, the No. 5 seed at provincials, takes on the top sed Calgary Christian in the first of two semifinals on Friday, March 21 in the Stampede City with Immanuel Christian and Taber Christian in the other semifinal.

The Drillers will either play for gold, at 5 p.m., or bronze, at 3 p.m., on Saturday in Calgary. Click here for the full schedule.

Fresh off a dominant run through league playoffs and as hosts of the South Central zone championships in Diamond Valley, Oilfields opened provincials with a 66-31 win over Onoway in the tournament icebreaker.

From there, the Drillers held off the No. 4 seed Edmonton Christian 59-56 in a thrilling quarterfinal match.

Oilfields’ provincial journey is on the heels of a trio of Okotoks teams making waves in the 4A basketball provincials, with the Foothills Falcons making it to the Elite Eight in both the senior girls and boys ranks and Holy Trinity Academy Knights advancing to the round of 16.
