Holy Trinity Academy Knights quarterback Declan Lyth threw for a touchdown, the only major for Team South, in the Football Alberta Senior Bowl on Jan. 5 in Calgary. Team North won the high school football showcase by a 31-10 score.

Football Alberta’s Senior Bowl went the way of the North, but not without significant Okotoks contributions in the contest.

The 34th annual Football Alberta showcase of the top Grade 12 athletes in the province saw Team North edge Team South 31-10 on Sunday, Jan. 5 at the Encana Dome at Shouldice Park in Calgary with four members of the Holy Trinity Academy Knights suiting up.

HTA, the 4A provincial champions in November, were represented by quarterback Declan Lyth, wide receiver Cayden McCullough, defensive back Ashton Power and kicker/punter Ryan Chirzynski.

Knights players contributed to nine of the 10 points scored for Team South.

Chirzynski, who kicked and punted in the showcase, got Team South on the board with a 34-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Lyth took over behind centre in the second half and led the team to the end zone for the first time to cut the deficit to 21-10 in the late stages of the fourth quarter when the quarterback connected with Notre Dame’s Aaron Oboh on a pass in the slot that turned into a 39-yard touchdown.

The Offensive MVP nod went to Bellerose’s Darius Crandell for Team North and Marcus Williams from Calgary’s Crescent Heights for Team South. W.H. Croxford’s Joseph Abou Mechrek and Spruce Grove’s Brody Bursey took home the Defensive MVP awards.

The all-time record in the Senior Bowl has Team South with a slight edge at 17-16-1.
