Okotoks high school hoops enter spotlight at Knights Classic

Basketball: HTA hosting its 26th annual tournament Jan. 13-14

A classic featuring two Okotoks schools and eight of the top squads in the province is on the docket this weekend.

The 26th annual Knights Classic senior boys basketball tournament tips off on Friday at Holy Trinity Academy with both the host Knights and Foothills Falcons among the eight-team field.

The two-day competition gets underway with HTA taking on Airdrie’s Bert Church Chargers on Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.

HTA has seen success in tournament play in the early going of the 2022-23 campaign, taking home the tournament title at Bert Church’s Invitational in December.

The Falcons’ opening round contest is against Edmonton’s Archbishop O’Leary at 6:30 p.m.

It’s the second meeting in less than a month between the schools with the capital city squad earning a nine-point victory at Raymond’s Sugar Bowl tournament in late December.

The tournament will also feature Chestermere, Catholic Central, W.H. Croxford and Medicine Hat High.

On the second day of action, the semifinals are held at 10:15 a.m. and noon, the consolation final at 3:30 p.m., bronze medal match at 5:15 p.m. and the final is at 7 p.m.

At the 2022 event, the Knights and Falcons met in the consolation final with HTA winning a tight contest on its home floor.
