The man with the best hair in world rugby makes his debut at the Pan American Games this week.
Okotokian Thomas 'Mullet Man' Isherwood and the Canada Men's Rugby Sevens team take to the pitch on Nov. 3 and 4 at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
Isherwood, who starred with the Foothills Lions and at Foothills Composite where he graduated in 2018, first took to the international stage for Team Canada at its World Rugby Sevens stop in Edmonton in 2021.
Since then, he’s had the opportunity to make every stop on the circuit in the World Rugby Sevens Series, highlighted by his first opportunity to play close to home at the Vancouver event as well as in London, and represented Canada at the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens in South Africa.
The 23-year-old is the only Albertan on the 12-man roster for Canada.
Isherwood will look to become the second athlete from both Okotoks and Foothills Composite to medal at the Games.
Last week, swimmer Finlay Knox completed a four-medal haul in the pool with gold in the 200m IM along with three relay bronze medals.
The Canadian men's schedule sees the team open its competition on Nov. 3 at 9:05 a.m. (MST) versus Brazil followed by a 1:05 p.m. clash versus Mexico and the first day finale at 5 p.m. against the U.S.A. The playoff round takes place on Nov. 4 with the men's bronze and gold medal matches at 2:10 p.m. and 3:10 p.m., respectively.
The 2023 Pan American Games are being streamed on CBC Sports' platforms, cbcsports.ca, CBC Gem and the CBC Sports App.
