Okotoks showjumper soars above at Spruce Meadows’ Oktoberfest

Austin Krawitt wins Birchcliff Energy Cup to conclude tournament season

The showjumping tournament season ended on a winning note for an Okotokian.

Austin Krawitt leapt above a stacked field of competitors on Oct. 6 to take home the Birchcliff Energy Cup 1.35m, the conclusion of the Oktoberfest tournament which puts a bow on Spruce Meadows’ showjumping season.

Krawitt, riding Castelle Van Het Beekhof Z, edged Team Spruce Meadows riders Isis Landsbergen and Brian Morton on the podium.

Katie Laurie, an Olympian for her home country of New Zealand in the 2008 Games who now lives near Okotoks, rode two different horses to fourth and fifth place finishes in the Cup.

Despite showjumping season ending, the action continues on several fronts at Spruce Meadows over the coming weeks.

Cavalry FC has its regular season home finale on Saturday, Oct. 12 at ATCO Field ahead of the Canadian Premier League playoffs in which the second-seed is poised to host at least one home game.

Next week, on Oct. 15, tickets for the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market, presented by TELUS, are on sale.
