Penticton Vees foil Okotoks Oilers to earn 2-0 series lead

The Okotoks Oilers are hoping a change will be as good as a rest on Tuesday.

The BCHL opening round playoff series shifts to Okotoks for Game 3 on April 8 with the Penticton Vees earning a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven set following a 5-0 triumph Sunday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Luke Posthumus and Tristan Petersen each scored twice for the Vees after Simon Meier opened the scoring early in the second period. Penticton captain Conyr Hellyer, a former Oiler from Okotoks, had two assists in the win, with Vees leading scorer Ryden Evers adding three helpers.

Oilers goalie Olivier Ciarlo made 34 saves on 39 shots.

At the other end of the ice, Ethan Buenaventura earned the 14-save shutout to follow up on Will Ingemann’s 19-save shutout in the 4-0 win in Game 1 on Thursday.

Okotoks, the eighth seed in the Interior Conference, is home for Game 3 and 4 on April 8 and April 9, both 7 p.m. starts at the Viking Rentals Centre. For ticket information, click here.

In the other first round series in the BCHL’s Interior Conference, the Sherwood Park Crusaders lead the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 2-0 while the Brooks Bandits and West Kelowna Warriors series and Trail Smoke Eaters and Cranbrook Bucks sets are both knotted at 1-1.
