A rare repeat capped off a dramatic week of showjumping at Spruce Meadows’ Masters.
Switzerland’s Martin Fuchs won his second consecutive CPKC ‘International’, presented by Rolex title Sunday in Foothills County ahead of a stacked field in one of the most important events on the showjumping calendar.
“To secure a second win here, back-to-back on my amazing horse Leone Jei feels fantastic,” said Fuchs, in his post jump press conference. “It was a bit different scenario than last year. I honestly didn’t believe after my rail that it would still be possible to win.
“It was a dramatic day, but luck was on my side.”
Fuchs edged second place finisher Darragh Kenny of Ireland and Daniel Deusser of Germany on the podium in the three-athlete jump-off to claim the $3 million purse.
“For me, Spruce Meadows and this competition is the ultimate goal. I am very happy,” he added.
On Saturday, Team Germany soared above the competition to take home the BMO Nations’ Cup at Spruce Meadows’ International Ring.
Germany, comprised of Deusser, André Thieme, Joerne Sprehe and Jana Wargers, outlasted the other six nations in the competition with Ireland and Great Britain claiming the second and third place finishes.
On Sunday, Spruce Meadows President and CEO Linda Southern-Heathcott announced the grand prix prize pot will be $5 million at the 2025 event as part of the 50th anniversary season. That amount will make the CPKC ‘International' the largest purse in showjumping across the globe.
During the Masters, the Leg Up Foundation’s Jump For Jasper fundraiser raised $72,520.
A mystery donor offered $490 for every clear round made in the International Ring at the five-day competition and with 148 clear rounds over 72 thousand was raised for the Jasper Community Teams Society and Jasper Food Bank.
Additionally, $12,000 was raised for the Wings of Hope breast cancer charity through the 50/50 sales at the Masters.
