Okotoks football looks poised to make noise again in 2024.
Football Alberta’s first high school rankings of the season have the Holy Trinity Academy Knights ranked first in the 4A category with the Foothills Falcons ranked fifth ahead of both teams’ home openers this weekend.
HTA, the 2022 and 2019 provincial champions, has kicked off the season with a pair of comprehensive victories. After its season opening 45-7 triumph over St. Joseph’s, the Knights struck gold in a trip to the Golden Coast with a 44-0 win over the Coronado High School Islanders in the San Diego area on Aug. 30.
Foothills, provincial finalists last season in the old Tier I Larry Wilson, have also started brightly in a commanding 49-12 win over Fort McMurray’s Holy Trinity on Aug. 31 in Edmonton.
The Football Alberta rankings, which were released on Labour Day, have switched from a tier system to the A system classifying teams based on population size. The 4A classification represents the second largest school size (800-1,399).
Both the Falcons and Knights will be under the Friday Night Lights for their home openers on Sept. 6.
The Knights clash with the Medicine Hat High Hawks in a battle of the top two ranked 4A teams at 5 p.m. The Falcons are home to the Cardston Cougars, fourth-ranked at 3A, which is also slated for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
