January 10, 1937 - January 16, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Currie,
beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, on January 16, 2025,
at the age of 88 at Oilfields Hospital in Black Diamond after a brief illness.
Born on January 10, 1937, in Patricia, Alberta to Ambrose and Artie Currie,
Don’s journey through life was filled with hard work, dedication, and
a commitment to providing for his family.
Don moved to Millarville in 1950 when his parents bought a farm.
For years Don and his brother Allen helped their father farm the land while
still attending school. Don met the love of his life Kaye Crawford and they
were married in 1962. He moved to Black Diamond after his wedding
where they built a life and lived until his passing.
Black Diamond was where Don and Kaye raised their two sons
and shared a deep passion for horses. Don had a knack for
finding unique treasures at auctions around the countryside and
in Inglewood, often returning home with unexpected additions like
peacocks and guinea hens. Though he spent most of his career in
the oil services industry, his true passions lay with his animals, his
beloved acreage and in his later years, his garden, where he found
peace and purpose.
Don greeted everyone with a firm handshake, a warm smile, and his
signature “What do you know?”. always up for a spirited debate, he
enjoyed lively conversations about sports, politics and any topic that
caught his interest.
He will be deeply missed by his wife Kaye, his sons Don Jr. and Neil
(Kristen)and his five grandchildren Callum, Tabitha, Carter, Jackson
and Finn. Don is also survived by his brother Allen (Glenis) and their
son Leigh, his brother-in law Ronald Seeger, his many nephews and
nieces and his close friend Gwenn.
Don was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Ronald
(Nellie), Bernice (Fred), Myrtle (Sam) and Norma, whose memories
he cherished.
Don’s legacy of love, hard work and dedication to family will live on
in his kids and grandkids and the hearts of all who knew him.
