November 25, 1931 – November 22, 2024

James Melvin McGregor, beloved husband, father, and rancher, passed away
on November 22, 2024. Born in Turner Valley on November 25, 1931, to Maude
and James McGregor, Jim lived a full and remarkable life, leaving a legacy
of hard work, determination, and love.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Yvonne, who was his steadfast
partner in life and on the ranch. Together, they raised two children: their son,
Scott McGregor, and their daughter, Mona McGregor.

From a young age, Jim’s passion for rodeo shaped his life. He competed
in bull and bronc riding throughout Canada and the United States, thrilling
audiences with his skill and grit. His adventures later took him to France,
where he worked with Mobil Oil and delighted his family with vivid tales of
his time overseas and his rodeo adventures.

A lifelong dreamer and doer, Jim fulfilled his aspiration to ranch. He spent
30 years ranching in Senlac, Saskatchewan, where he also rode cutting
horses. Later, he settled in Okotoks, where he enjoyed 34 years on a ranch
with stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. While in Okotoks, Jim also ran
cattle south of the border, expanding his operations and further deepening
his connection to ranching culture.

Jim was a voracious reader, immersing himself in Western and ranching
history. He was also a mischievous practical joker, especially notorious for
his April Fools’ Day pranks, which left everyone smiling.

He was a proud member of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association and
the Alberta Cattlemen’s Association, where he forged enduring friendships
with fellow ranchers.

He will be remembered for his relentless determination, his ability to achieve
whatever he set his mind to, and his passion for the ranching life.

Jim is predeceased by his brothers Bill, Robert, Alan, and Gordon, and his
sisters Margie, Gladys, and Jean. He is survived by his loving wife Yvonne,
his sister Nell, his children Scott and Mona, and many other family members
and friends who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date.

Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family,
who cherish the many memories of a life well-lived.
