LETTER: Okotoks deer must go before this gets much worse

I don't want a fortress around my home to protect it from the deer.

Dear Editor,

Re: It’s not deer’s fault if you put it in threatened position, Jan. 17

I read with amusement the letter from Ron Lukasiewich regarding the deer problem in Okotoks. He is correct in stating it is not the deer’s fault, it is the Town’s fault.

Firstly, these are wild animals and I am not aware of any urban areas that are considered wild. Secondly, to plant my yard to prevent the deer from destroying it is unfair as we may both like the same things. Thirdly, to protect my yard by building a higher fence at great expense is ridiculous as the deer seem to like my front yard as much as my back yard. I don't want a fortress around my home.

As for the fear factor, it is only a matter of time before something much worse will occur as not all these tree-hugging environmentalists seem to understand. I feel the best way to send a wake up call to Town administration and council would be to send an expense claim for the reparations caused by the deer to your property.

The deer must go before this gets much worse.
