Dear Editor,
Thank you. I need to start and end this letter with heartfelt gratitude. The world feels like everything has been topsy turvy the past few years. The good things have been great and the bad things have been really tough.
One of the homes in my neighbourhood was destroyed by fire last week. The response has been phenomenal and welcoming. The night it happened, four different neighbours checked in to be sure we were out of our house and safe. One neighbour I’d never met before brought hot tea and a jacket for me, plus dog treats to help my dogs stay calm. The little things really matter.
Thanks to Okotoks Fire and Rescue for your exceptional response. You were fast, professional, thorough and reassuring. Thank you for checking my home to be sure it was empty and safe.
I’m especially grateful for the firefighters that dropped in the next day to offer a no-cost fire risk assessment. The offer is open to everyone in Okotoks so please consider contacting the fire station to schedule one for yourself. Until mine is booked, I have two brand new fire extinguishers and a new fireproof safe for my important documents like my passport and home insurance policies.
We’re a strong community, a great community. We also know boom and bust cycles and it’s good to prepare for the worst when times are good. My greatest thanks to everyone who has helped my neighbours. They mean the world to me and are part of the reason I'm so proud to be here.
Thanks, Okotoks, I love that you’re my home.
