A map shows the proposed Area Structure Plan for Foothills Landing, a 2,100-unit proposal defeated by Foothills County council on Oct. 9.

Dear Editor,

As a community of rural acreage residents, we are overjoyed.

Foothills County council’s decision this week was to reject the proposal of the Foothills Landing high density development adjacent to highways 2/2A.

The councillors’ vision is in line with ours, as well as the county’s long-standing traditional values of preserving agricultural land. We are so proud that they have stood together and upheld the rural character, stunning beauty, dark skies and natural environment that we all love and have chosen to live in

Growth is inevitable, but high density urban development needs to stay adjacent to cities. Country living needs to be valued and respected.

Thank you councillors for hearing us, the residents of Foothills County. You have respected these values and acted in good faith as responsible stewards of this fine land.
