The existing water plant in Cayley has reached the end of its life span and either needs to be replaced or a pipeline to High River installed.
After a study by the MD of Foothills council it was determined a regional water line would cost about the same as a new plant but the operating costs of the pipeline are much less.
Also the Province will come to the table under the Water for Life program with 90 per cent of the funding for the pipeline and only 75 per cent for the water plant.
Foothills municipal manager Harry Riva Cambrin said an added bonus is they will be able to supply water to the airport at the same time.
The previous High River town council agreed to the project and if the new council is still on board the MD will then apply for the water license transfer and the project will be underway.

Check out the details in this issue for a “Roast” of our former mayor Bill McAlpine.
Rotary is hosting the event in honour of his 12-year tenure as Mayor of Okotoks during some record breaking growth spurts. Bring your appetite as the food will be great and your sense of humour as the recollections shared will not always be of a serious nature. Proceeds will go to a local cause which will be announced at the event. Tickets are available at the Wheel.

You just knew it had to happen! With all the new ways to get news out fast the race is on to be the first off the block with big breaking stories.
With today’s media environment stories travel farther and faster than ever before.
When the news broke on the shootings in Tucson, AZ. on the weekend the initial story had several errors including that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords had died. Most media outlets have fewer reporters than in the past and rely on each other to gather the news.
Within an hour it was being reported via internet, television and radio not only Giffords had died but also the shooter had been shot before taken into custody.
Finally the truth came out and the original author of the news had to apologize for the incorrect details. Sad thing is with today’s fast pace we can expect more of this in the future.

A tip of the hat this week to all the grader operators who I am sure put in extra hours to clear the streets during and after the winter storm that left large drifts of snow all over our roadways. It seems impossible for the rural roads to get graded and sanded as quickly as they do. Anyway, thanks for the extra effort at times like this.
