Warm week ahead, Okotoks, but don't look at the long-range

This week's weather forecast for Okotoks is spring-like but it takes a very chilly turn come the weekend.

The final week of January is expected to be downright spring-like, but winter’s grasp awaits as the calendar turns to February.

Environment Canada’s forecast for Okotoks and area calls for mainly sunny skies with a high of 9C today and tomorrow. It gets even warmer and sunnier later in the week with a high of 13C on Wednesday and 12C on Thursday and Friday.

Before you break out the patio furniture, be warned that conditions are expected to take a sharp turn for the worse beginning on Saturday, Feb. 1. The high that day is only expected to reach –12C and drops to –19C the following day.

There’s a chance of flurries on both days.

The long-range forecast on The Weather Channel calls for the cold snap to hold on throughout next week, with daytime highs in the –9C range for most of the week.
