Luke Baburic is honoured that Big Rock Crystals Minerals & Fossils was chosen Favourite New Business in the 2023 Western Wheel Readers’ Choice Awards.
“We're just very thankful for our customers and the support that we've been given and we're very honoured and impressed that we were voted Favourite New Business,” Baburic said. “That's really cool.”
Diamond Smiles earned silver in the category while Full Circle Movement Studios received bronze.
Baburic and his wife Michelle opened the shop a year ago on Elizabeth Street next to Town Hall after their hobby-turned-business eventually outgrew the garage at their home in Drake Landing.
He said the move into Olde Towne Okotoks has gone exceedingly well.
“We love being right downtown and the people have embraced the store,” he said. “We get lots of compliments and we're just ecstatic with that support.”
Baburic said the store offers crystals, minerals and fossils at affordable prices as it caters to two distinct groups of clientele: rockhounds/geologists and those interested in the metaphysical side of crystals.
Sourcing stock from all over the world, Baburic said rockhounds frequent the store due to the quality of specimens it carries, which range from “really raw” to “really beautiful.”
Customers also come in looking for crystals, believing they have healing properties for the body, mind and soul. They believe crystals can get rid of negative energy, benefitting everything from sleep to prosperity.
