The Town of Diamond Valley is moving garbage collection to a bi-weekly schedule beginning May 1.
Recycling and organics will continue to be collected weekly, except during the winter months (November to March), when organics will be collected on a bi-weekly schedule.
While collection days for garbage will remain the same in both Turner Valley and Black Diamond, residents in Black Diamond will see their recycling and compost collection moved to Fridays.
The updated collection schedule will see black bins picked up on Tuesday in Turner Valley and Thursday in Black Diamond. Blue and green bins will be picked up on Wednesday in Turner Valley and Friday in Black Diamond.
The Town says it’s implementing changes to its waste collection program to support community growth, sustainability and cost-efficiency.
The changes will come with a reduction in overall waste service fees, with a 34 per cent decrease to the total utility charge for residential waste services.
The Extended Producer Responsibility program will shift recycling services (and costs) to provincial management. Recycling services will remain unchanged for residents, but will no longer be available to businesses or non-residential users.
The changes to utility bills effective May 1 will include about a $5 decrease in garbage fees, the elimination of the $13.46 recycling fee and about $1 increase on organics to cover processing costs.
The Town says bills will drop from $51.62 to $33.87.
