Diamond Valley Parade Day to celebrate amalgamation

Parade will be followed by activities in Millennium Park and throughout town as cherished community tradition celebrates its 55th anniversary.

A tradition for more than half a century, Diamond Valley Parade Day takes on special significance this year.

The highly anticipated event, which always promises a day filled with festivities and entertainment, will be the first one held since the towns of Black Diamond and Turner Valley amalgamated at the beginning of 2023 to form the new town of Diamond Valley.

Set for Saturday, June 3, the theme of this year’s Diamond Valley Parade Day is “Amalgamation Celebration” to mark the first event organized under the new united Town.

The cherished community tradition is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year.

Integral to the success of this year’s event is the Town’s partnership with BGC Foothills, which has taken on the co-ordination of the ever-popular parade. Oilfields High School leadership program students and the Foothills club are also contributing to the food and fun.

The day kicks off with a pancake breakfast at Oilfields High School hosted by staff and students from 8 to 10 a.m., or while supplies last.

At 9:30 a.m., roads along the parade route will be temporarily closed and vehicles rerouted in preparation for the start of the parade at 10 a.m. The procession makes a large loop around the community of Black Diamond, and promises a spectacle, including vibrant musical performances, creatively decorated floats representing local community groups and businesses, as well as the charm of horseback riders and horse-drawn wagons.

Once the parade concludes, the festivities continue at Millennium Park in the Turner Valley community from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Park activities will include bounce houses, petting zoo, face painting booth, dunk tank, artisan market, Lions Club barbecue, dance party and Junior Firefighter Challenge hosted by the Diamond Valley Fire Department.

This event is the perfect opportunity to meet up with family and friends, bask in the sun and create lasting memories.

There will be various complementary events taking place throughout the Town, allowing everyone to find something that captures their interest. The annual Sheep River Library Book Sale, Valley Neighbours' Club Plant Sale and the Sheep Creek Arts Council Bake Sale and Quilt Show are among the activities scheduled.

BGC Foothills will be operating a free shuttle bus service between Black Diamond and Turner Valley to allow people to visit the many great stores and restaurants offering outstanding shopping and dining experiences.

There is still time to register to participate in the parade, register as a vendor, sponsor a portion of the event or be part of an amazing group of volunteers.
