Fire ban lifted in Foothills County, fire restriction in place

Rain over the past few days has allowed Foothills County to remove a fire ban and replace it with a fire restriction.

A fire restriction has been issued in Foothills County effective Aug. 7, down from a fire ban.

A fire restriction has been declared in Foothills County, down from a fire ban.

The restriction was put in place at 12:23 p.m. on Aug. 7.

No fire restrictions are in effect in Okotoks, High River or Diamond Valley.

The Foothills County fire restriction allows for:

  • Safe residential fire pits and safe campfires in campgrounds (non-combustible unit 36 inches in diameter or less).
  • Gas or propane stoves / barbecues when used in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Charcoal briquette and solid fuel barbecues when used to manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Chiminea’s (with screen covers that are located on non-combustible surfaces)
  • Internal household fireplaces
  • Wood pellet smokers
  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Burning barrels (steel drum no larger than 45 gallons, with screen covers that are located on a non-combustible surface) 

The restriction follows a fire ban put in effect on July 23.
