Firefighters from across Alberta are answering a call for aid in Jasper amid the ongoing wildfire crisis.

First responders from Diamond Valley, High River and Foothills County are in Jasper alongside crews from throughout the province, following a request for support by Alberta Emergency Management.

"Last night we sent a bush truck and a tender apparatus with six firefighters total, and they responded last night and were immediately tasked with assisting the crews in Jasper," said Diamond Valley Fire Rescue Chief TJ Moore.

According to Moore, a High River Fire Department fire engine with four firefighters, three from High River and one from the Foothills County Fire Department, responded last night as well.

"It's a privilege to be able to go and assist our brothers and sisters of the fire service in Jasper, and we we hope to do our part to help them in this extremely tragic and unprecedented situation," said Moore.

A Facebook post by Diamond Valley Fire Rescue reminds readers to "not carelessly discard cigarettes, fully extinguish campfires before leaving them and never leave them unattended, be cautious with off road vehicles in the forest area and report any sign of a fire immediately to 911."

A Foothills County fire ban is in effect as of July 23.
