Millarville Stockland 4-H Club members had a busy time participating in the big 4-H on Parade Show at the Calgary Stampede grounds.

On Thursday of show week, club members came in the morning to set up all of the stalls for the animals for the show. There was a steer weigh-in during the afternoon, and we also marched in the Club Grand Entry. Right after that our club went to multi-judge for whoever signed up for it.

On Friday, our club came to the barns in the morning to re-clean stalls (put clean shavings in). At the same time, we exercised the beef animals who were quite full of it. The first show of the week was beef female show with multiple members from our club participating in this competition. Our members did well, and lots moved forward either for conformation or showmanship.

Then on Saturday, same as Friday, our club came to the barns around 6 a.m. and had to clean stalls again. We also had to take our beef animals for exercise and walking. There was a pancake breakfast.

The cleaver kids got to do their stuff on Saturday. There was also a steer show on this day and our members did great, with some of them moving forward with their animals and all of them moving forward in showmanship.

At the end of the day on Saturday, our club cleaned up and headed home.

Summer has been a nice break, but now we are getting ready for our new club year.

Do you want to learn more about farm animals? Well, our club does cattle and sheep. We train, show and groom animals for competitions that have multiple prizes, including scholarships in some competitions. You can join this club at the youngest age of six and the oldest age of 21.

The 4-H club doesn't just train animals as there is so much more to do. Our club gets together once a month for business meetings that are run by members and we get together monthly to learn more about our animals and special activities that we do within a club such as volunteering for events, planning activities like laser tag and public speaking.

The 4-H club is so much more than livestock. Come check out our club on Sunday, Sept. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Millarville Racetrack hall for more information on joining.
