A donation from the Turner Valley Legion will be used for emergency room equipment at the Oilfields Hospital in Diamond Valley.
Paul Barton, president of Branch #78 of the Royal Canadian Legion, presented a $10,000 cheque to the Sheep River Health Trust at the hospital on March 27.
The donation will equip the hospital's emergency room with a slit lamp that is used by physicians to exam a patient's eye and diagnose common eye emergencies, said Christine Oakes with the Sheep River Health Trust.
Sharon Dowdall, a hospital site manager, said the emergency room at Oilfields is busy and sees a variety of injuries or chronic conditions, and the new equipment allows patients to be cared for locally.
"We could see farming accidents with injury to the eye, oilfield (injuries) or general accidents and injuries," Dowdall said.
"Our physicians can monitor through this piece of equipment and it covers such a broad spectrum of ophthalmological issues," she said.
The donation came from the Legion's Poppy Fund.
