The 117th Priddis & Millarville Fair on Aug. 17 and 18 was a resounding success, marked by record-breaking attendance and a vibrant display of community spirit.

The weekend had excellent weather, save for a brief shower on Saturday that did not dampen spirits during the pie and quilt auction.

The fair was a true inter-generational affair, with both young and old immersing themselves in the experience of exhibiting, volunteering and attending.

Here are some numbers from this year’s fair:

• 2,075 ribbons were awarded to celebrate the talents of our 511 exhibitors and competitors.

• 408 participants received prize payouts, 41 of whom received over $100.

• The youngest exhibitors were two years old; the oldest exhibitor age disclosed at registration was 83.

• Over 250 individuals volunteered their time. This does not include the guilds or organizations that came to offer their information and expertise, such as the Sheep Creek Weavers, Calgary and District Bee Keepers Association, Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation, Stampede City Model A Ford Club, Foothills Model T Club, Agriculture for Life, Turner Valley Firefighters and Alberta Organic Producers.

• Creativity flourished with 329 cookies transformed into edible art, over 100 rocks received colourful makeovers and sheaves were tied by our enthusiastic guests. Sheep Creek Weavers and the Arts & Handicraft Departments shared their expertise with our guests and had them participate in "Make and Takes" too.

Livestock competitions and displays, tractor pulls, stock dog demonstrations, a farmyard full of llamas, geese, miniature horses and goats were all a huge success with our guests. There was so much more. You really needed the two full days of the fair to experience it all.

What a tremendous effort by this community, from donors and sponsors to our hundreds of volunteers. The fair is a testament to the power of community and the joy of shared achievements, with numerous events and competitions showcasing the best of our local culture and creativity.

Thank you to our generous sponsors and volunteers. Financial and in-kind contributions, as well as volunteer time and effort, make this event possible.
