Representatives of the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation received a cheque for more than $6,000 from the Diamond Valley Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign.

Tim Hortons has put a smile on the face of the Diamond Valley Youth Foundation and the children it serves.

Proceeds from this year’s Diamond Valley Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign, which amounted to $6,158, went to the foundation that will use it for programming.

Funds raised during Smile Cookie Week will subsidize STEAM programming (hands-on science/technology/engineering/arts/math) which the organization is introducing to the youth of Diamond Valley in partnership with Next Gen EduCare and the Sheep River Library.

The first 10-week session will begin in September, and classes will be offered to three age categories: grades 2 to 5, grades 6 to 9 and grades 10 to 12.

The foundation’s intention is to run three sessions a year — fall, winter and spring — and the funding will allow that to become a reality.

The foundation was formed to provide extra resources for the youth of Diamond Valley to ensure that all children have equal access to enriching opportunities. It funds a variety of initiatives, including field trips, sporting activities, playground maintenance, technology, fine arts and more.
