The Millarville Community Library is holding a gently used book sale on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Rancher’s Corner Cafe (Highway 22 at the junction of eastern leg of Highway 549).

The sale will run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hundreds of books will be on sale, ranging from literary classics to children’s stories to the latest thrillers, and includes donations from Swisherbocker Books in Diamond Valley and extra copies from the library’s shelves.

Proceeds from the book sale will go to material acquisition and programs for the library. The event is sponsored by Spisherbocker Books, Rona Black Diamond, Skilled Resolvements in Millarville and Rancher’s Corner Café.

The book sale is just one of the events the library has planned to build awareness among Millarville, Priddis and Bragg Creek residents of everything the library offers. An open house is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14 at the library at 130 Millarville Rd., adjacent to the elementary school. The library will also have a booth at the next night market at Millarville General Store.

The Millarville Community Library is part of the Marigold Regional Library system. It is a registered non-profit community library, operated by a volunteer society, with funding support from the Government of Alberta through Marigold.

The library began as a few donated books on a shelf in the Millarville school in the 1970s. Today, the library is housed in its own facility and gives residents with a card access to millions of books, audio-books, music and movies as well as adult and children’s programs, author talks and online courses.

It is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. New volunteers are always welcome to assist with programs, events, on the board or in the library.
