Dave Elder portrays Garry Lejeune in Dewdney Players' production of Noises Off.

The Dewdney Players open a two-week run of Noises Off tonight in Calgary.

The comedy, written in 1982 by English playwright Michael Frayn, showcases the absurd hijinks of a dysfunctional group of thespians as they try to stage a production, making it a play-within-a-play.

"It's definitely one of the top comedies ever written," said director Katie Fournell. "It's got humour for everybody. It's got some slapstick, it's got some witty wordplay, it's got underwear. You name it, it's in this show."

The production has an elaborate set that can’t be accommodated at Old Church Theatre, meaning Okotoks’ theatre group is staging Noises Off at the Evan Hazell Theatre, located in the Brookfield Residential YMCA in Calgary's Seton neighbourhood. The venue is just under 20 minutes from Okotoks by car.

Noises Off runs Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 and Nov. 6 to 9 at 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. matinees on Nov. 2 and 9.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door ($20 in advance/$25 at the door for seniors and students). Advance tickets are available through Eventbrite
