A beloved Foothills event has been cancelled ahead of what would have been its 15th annual iteration.

The Longstock Music and Arts Festival was originally slated for Aug. 9 to 11 at Smith-Fuller Centennial Park in Longview.

"Due to mounting unforeseen circumstances, we regret to inform you that we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel this year’s festival," wrote the Longstock Music Association board of directors in an emailed statement dated May 22.

Event organizers could not be reached for comment on this year's cancellation or the future of the festival.

A source close to the festival cited declining ticket sales and a lack of sponsorship as being contributing factors for this year's festival being cancelled.

A Facebook announcement dated June 19 confirmed the cancellation, resulting in an outpouring of social media support by the community.

"This is really [too] bad. It really put Longview on the map. People far and wide talked about this event," wrote one Facebook user.

"Sorry to hear... we loved doing it last year... everything was always done in a professional manner... hope to see you next year," wrote another.

The email added that "this has been an absolutely heartbreaking decision for us to make, and we hope to possibly revive the festival in the future."
