The Big Rock Singers are now accepting registrations for their spring season, which will culminate with Music of the Night, a two-night gala in May.
The non-auditioned community choir embarks on its 35th anniversary season on Jan. 15 as it starts rehearsals on some of the most world-famous choral repertoire ever, which will be accompanied live in performance by piano and string quartet.
No previous music or singing experience is required to join the choir, which is made up of members who want to sing and perform while meeting new friends along the way.
The Big Rock Singers’ spring performance is done in show choir style, complete with group choreography and costumes to make it much more than your ordinary choir concert.
For the spring season, singers can choose the level of participation that works best for them. The concert choir sings fewer songs, but those members still enjoy all the fun of the final performance, while additional opportunities to sing and dance are offered in show choir and ensemble numbers.
The full choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Okotoks United Church, while those taking part in additional numbers extend their time at rehearsal until 9:30 p.m.
Workshop rehearsals take place on a few Saturdays during the season.
The Big Rock Singers are a volunteer organization, so members will take part in various fundraising projects during the choir year.
