The Dewdney Players are holding auditions for Squabbles, a comedy that will be staged at Okotoks’ Old Church Theatre this spring.
A cast of four men and three women is required for the play written by Marshall Karp. Auditions will be held at the Aldersyde Community Hall on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The auditions will be a cold read so there is no need to prepare a monologue.
Those looking to audition are asked to sign up here as there are a limited number of spots for each day.
In Squabbles, Abe Dreyfus, a cantankerous widower, moves in with his daughter, Alice, and her husband, Jerry, who are expecting their first child. Things get even more complicated when Mildred, Jerry’s mother, comes looking for a place to stay.
The seven characters in the cast are as follows:
Jerry Sloan: A successful jingle writer who is married to Alice.
Alice Sloan: A lawyer who is married to Jerry. They are expecting a baby in the very near future.
Abe Dreyfus: A retired New York city cab driver who is Alice’s father. He enjoys a good argument.
Mildred Sloan: Jerry’s mother is divorced and her house just burned down.
Hector Lopez: A friendly handyman who speaks with a Spanish accent.
Sol Wasserman: A retired pharmacist and Abe’s neighbour.
Mrs. Fisher: A governess who is very strict.
Rehearsals will be held Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Show dates are May 2 to 17.
