A special Gordon Lightfoot tribute concert is coming to the Old Church Theatre in Okotoks next weekend.

Picking up the Pieces: The Songs of Gordon Lightfoot will be staged on Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The carefully curated show will emulate Lightfoot’s early touring trio and feature music from all over the Canadian icon’s discography.

Lightfoot is one of the most famous Canadian musicians in history. During his heyday in the 1960s and '70s, he was a cultural phenom who brought relevance to Canadian music and culture.

Lightfoot had many hit songs through his career, including SundownIf You Could Read My Mind and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

It’s fair to say Lightfoot, who passed away in 2023, is Canada's most famous folk musician and he embodied the Canadian spirit in his music like none other.

Producer and MC John Hewitt said now more than ever Lightfoot’s music is sacred to Canadians.

“He was a very proud Canadian and wore it proudly," Hewitt said. "He is an artist that I think really reflects what it is to be Canadian.”

Hewitt and the trio consisting of Benjamin Williams, Patrick Hughes and Connor Miskiman have been touring the show for about a year.

With immense respect for Lightfoot, the trio is adamant it wants to capture the essence of the artist without trying to copy him.

“There will be no flashing lights. It's a simple show, but it’s one that’s all about the music,” said Hewitt

The show will play some of Lightfoot’s most popular hits as well as some deeper album cuts from his early career.

Tickets can be purchased from the band’s website.
