Okotoks' very own theatre troupe is in the spotlight.

The Dewdney Players' trio of top-tier productions — I've Hit an Iceberg by Danna Call, Three Little Words by Lou Moan and Lily's by Caden Arsenault — netted the group five awards at the 2025 Alberta Drama Festival Association Foothills Regional One Act Play Festival.

The awards won by the Dewdney Players are as follows:

Outstanding Technical Merit: Dewdney Players – Three Little Words

Outstanding Performance: Melanie Swennumson – I've Hit an Iceberg

Outstanding New Work: Lou Moan – Three Little Words

Outstanding Direction: Sherene Seders – Three Little Words

Outstanding Production: Dewdney Players – Three Little Words, with an honourable mention to I've Hit an Iceberg by the Dewdney Players

The fest, featuring theatre groups from Okotoks, High River, Canmore, Cochrane, Strathmore and more, was hosted by the High River-based Windmill Players at the Highwood Memorial Centre on March 28 and 29.

Last year's festival saw the Dewdney Players' Dave Hall and Ed Sands take home awards for outstanding director and outstanding technical merit, respectively.

The troupe is now headed to provincials, with the 2025 Alberta Drama Festival Association Provincial One Act Play Festival taking place in Medicine Hat on May 30 and 31.

The Dewdney Players' next full-fledged production, Squabbles, runs from May 2 to 17 at Old Church Theatre in Okotoks.
