Molly Wilson puts her comedic twist on the biggest hits

Molly’s Comedy Cabaret, a musical variety show, will be at the Old Church Theatre in Okotoks on Jan. 7.

Molly Wilson is bringing Molly’s Comedy Cabaret to Okotoks next week.

The musical variety show will be staged at the Old Church Theatre on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

The 90-minute show sees Wilson put her own comedic twist on the music of Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Queen, Whitney Houston and others.

Audiences can expect everything from pleas for a date during “Somebody to Love” to the sinking of the Titanic during “My Heart Will Go On.” Wilson even welcomes celebrity guest stars like “Bearbra Streisand” to share the stage with her.

“This show is great for everyone,” said Wilson, who writes and directs the cabaret. “It is engaging, interactive and guaranteed to tickle your funny bone. It’s a bit zany and I make sure every show has a lot of heart.”

Performing with Wilson are “Hot Fingers Wilson” and “Bob the Stage Manager,” also known as Wilson’s mom and dad, Debbie and Robert Wilson.

“My parents have many years honing their skills in theatre and improv, and it’s been wonderful working together,” she said. “I like to think it makes the show even more special for our audiences.”

Wilson grew up in Chilliwack, B.C. and studied musical theatre at Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton. In addition to her cabaret performances, she’s also an award-winning actor who has appeared in numerous plays, musical theatre shows and even been killed in a couple of indie films.

Tickets for the Okotoks show are $40 in advance, $50 at the door. They are available on Showpass.
