High River Gift of Music is partnering with Calgary’s Honens Festival to bring a free outdoor concert Open Air High River next month.

Honens Open Air High River, a family-friendly concert, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m.

The performance will feature two Steinway grand pianos and two amazing pianists — Jon Kimura Parker and Illia Ovcharenko — along with the flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and horn players of WindSync, one of North America’s finest wind quintets.

Ovcharenko, winner of the 2022 Honens International Piano Competition, has been praised as “technically flawless and impeccably musical,” while Parker is known for his charisma, enthusiasm and dynamic performances.

Concert goers are encouraged to bring a blanket and soak up the final days of the summer sun in this celebration of togetherness, arts and culture.

In case of rain, the backup venue is the High River United Church.

Honens Open Air High River kicks off High River Gift of Music’s 2024-25 season, which also includes a performance by the Juno Award-winning Gryphon Trio on Oct. 5.
