CPKC Holiday Train will roll nearby but won’t stop in Okotoks

CPKC has released the schedule for its Holiday Train, which will make several stops in the Calgary area in mid-December.

The CPKC Holiday Train isn’t coming to town this year.

CPKC has released this year’s schedule and its Canadian train’s route will see it come close to Okotoks, but not pass through town like it did last year.

CPKC operates two holiday trains — one in Canada and the other in the United States — that visit close to 200 communities over their month-long journeys from Nov. 21 to Dec. 20. The routes change every year to accommodate as many locations as possible.

Professional musicians play free concerts from the brightly decorated train's stage at each stop.

The trains also raise money, food and awareness for food banks at each stop along the way. CPKC makes a donation to the local food bank at each stop and encourages attendees to also donate.

Since its inception in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised more than $24 million and more than five million pounds of food for community food banks across North America.

The closest the train will get to Okotoks is a stop at the Anderson C-Train Station in Calgary on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. It will also make stops in Airdrie (Dec. 13) and Cochrane (Dec. 15).

Magic! and Sofia Camara are scheduled to perform at all three of those stops.
