Adult Summer Reading Bingo is back at the Okotoks Public Library. Pick up a free card, read books to complete a line and then fill out a ballot for a chance to win a Kobo Nia eReader along with some other neat prizes. Program runs until Sept. 5. okotokslibrary.ca  

  

The Town of Okotoks’ Environmental Education Centre hosts Nature Friday every week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. where activities focus on a different theme weekly. The 14th edition of the Longstock Music and Arts Festival will be held Aug. 11-13 at Smith-Fuller Centennial Park in Longview. Cash Uncaged and Foxx Worthee headline three days of live entertainment. Tickets available at longstockmusicfestival.com.

The Town of Okotoks is hosting Putting Up the Garden: Harvesting, Storing and Preserving Your Garden's Bounty, a Green Living workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Environmental Education Centre. Learn how to harvest, use and store the vegetables and fruit from your garden. From leaves and fruit to stems and roots, this talk will cover the multiple ways you can eat and safely process the edible plants you grow, including freezing, pickling, drying and making jams and jellies. okotoks.ca 

 

Chilifest & BBQ Showdown is back for its 21st year on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Olde Towne. Taste the chili and BBQ creations and vote for your favourite in this event hosted in partnership with the Town of Okotoks and the Elks, Legion, Lions and Kinsmen clubs. okotoks.ca

Discover what lurks downtown after dark during the Blue Moon Ghost Tour hosted by the Okotoks Museum and Archives and the Okotoks and District Historical Society on Wednesday, Aug 30. The Games We Play – A History of Sport in Okotoks will be on view at the Okotoks Museum until Dec. 22. Opened to coincide with the 2023 Alberta Summer Games co-hosted by Okotoks and Diamond Valley, the exhibit details how sports have always played an integral part in the town’s history. okotoks.ca

The Okotoks Museum and Archives has an exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the NWMP/RCMP on display until Sept. 2. The exhibit not only marks a major milestone in Canadian history, but also explores the community’s policing history. okotoks.ca    

    

Foothills Writers Group (formerly the Indie Author Group Okotoks) meets every third Thursday at the Okotoks Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The group is a community of local authors whose goal is to encourage and support writers during their creative journey. An ELL (English Language Learning) class is held every Thursday from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. Learn vocabulary that will help you in everyday situations in classes facilitated by YMCA LINC instructor Deb Payne. Classes are free and drop-in. okotokslibrary.ca    

    

The Okotoks Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Okotoks Public Library. The free club aims to improve chess play and maintains a friendly environment where learning takes priority over winning. Chess sets and clocks are available. All ages welcome, drop in.
