DATEBOOK: Stuffy Sleepover at the Okotoks Public Library

Bring your most adventurous stuffy to the library and join in a special evening Story Time on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Stuffed animals are among many inexpensive gifts to be found at the LoSeCa store.
Youngsters are invited to bring their bravest stuffed animals to the Okotoks Public Library for Stuffy Sleepover.

Watch movies under the stars on Friday, Sept. 6 in Ethel Tucker Centennial Park from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The Town of Okotoks is hosting a free double feature: The Incredibles followed by the 1984 classic Footloose. okotoks.ca  

  

Weekly Jam Sessions at the Okotoks and District Seniors Club are held on Fridays from 7 to 9 p.m. Musicians and singers are welcome as well as those that want to listen, sing along or dance to the tunes. Entrance fee is $2.            

              

The Okotoks Legion will hold meat draws (nine) every Saturday at the Elks Hall. Doors open at noon for a perogie meal. Tickets are $1 and draws run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.        

           

The High River & District Handicrafts Guild is holding its annual display of quilts and needle arts at Sheppard Family Park in High River on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The park, at 1201 – 5 St. SE, is also hosting its annual "Threshing Bee" on the same day.   

   

Buddhist meditation classes at the Okotoks Public Library on Mondays from Sept. 9 to 23 from 7 to 8.15 p.m. Drop-in cost is $15 per class. No experience is needed. Everyone is welcome. meditateinokotoks.org 

 

The Highwood Curling Club is holding its AGM on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Snodgrass Recreation Centre in High River. It will also be holding registration for the various curling leagues following the short AGM. Club members will be available to answer questions. The Okotoks Public Library hosts Movie Night for Adults on the second Thursday of each month. On Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m., there will be a screening of About My Father starring Robert DeNiro and Sebastian Maniscalco. okotokslibrary.ca

OM Chanting returns to the Okotoks Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It is an ancient, dynamic meditation technique which helps us realign with nature and existence. The Okotoks Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 15 in Sheep River Park (adjacent to the Lions Campground). Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the run gets underway at 10 a.m. There are three different routes, stretching from 1.5 to 5 kilometres. run.terryfox.ca/55557

You can record, edit and upload your own podcasts at the Sheep River Library in Diamond Valley in its soundproofed recording space. Foothills Writers Group (formerly the Indie Author Group Okotoks) meets on the third Thursday of the month at the Okotoks Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The group is a community of local authors whose goal is to encourage and support writers during their creative journey.
