Christmas trees glow at the Best Western Plus Okotoks Inn & Suites for the Sheep River Health Trust's Avenue of Trees in 2023.

Sheep River Health Trust is issuing a challenge to the community. A design challenge, that is.

The trust is asking businesses and organizations in the Foothills to submit a design to take part in the annual Avenue of Trees, which will be held at the Best Western Plus Okotoks Inn & Suites from Nov. 17 to Dec. 17.

The deadline to submit a design is Nov. 1.

The trust will be accepting 10 designs to become part of the Avenue of Trees. All 10 trees will be sponsored for $500 each.

Those accepted will be invited to an exclusive decorating and recognition party where trees will be decorated to Christmas music and refreshments. Once the trees are ready, sponsors will be recognized with a special ornament to hang on their trees.

The trees will then be awarded ribbons, and the top three designs will receive a prize for their team.

At the end of Avenue of Trees, every tree will be delivered to a family in need of a Christmas tree.

All funds raised from sponsoring the Avenue of Trees will go to the Sheep River Health Trust to support health services, wellness programs and purchase medical equipment for the Foothills.

All the trees will be on display to enhance the season for the public, which will have a chance to vote for the Fan Favourite. The tree with the most votes will be awarded the coveted Avenue of Trees Trophy and its decorators will receive a gift card to donate to their charity of choice.
