Foothills County and Calgary residents gathered at an open house in DeWinton to ask questions and give feedback about the proposed annexation of over 400 acres of County land into the City of Calgary.
Held at the DeWinton Community Hall on April 27, representatives from the City of Calgary, Foothills County and ISL Engineering were on hand to present information and answer questions.
Foothills County resident Taryn Ferguson said she attended to learn more about the proposed annexation.
An open forum, where people could ask questions out loud, would have been helpful to make an informed decision, Ferguson said.
"(After the presentation,) they didn't take any questions," she said.
In addition to presentations, information boards were placed around the room, and there were opportunities for residents to write down comments or concerns.
"It's great to have these boards up, but I also want to hear what other people's concerns are, as well, to help make an informed decision," she added.
Foothills County Div. 6 Coun. Don Waldorf said the open house marked the beginning of public consultation about the plan, which is in the first in a four-phase process.
"The room is full, and that tells me there is a lot of interest in the area," Waldorf said.
Feedback received during the open house will go back to both councils as negotiations continue for the potential annexation.
More information about the annexation is available online at engage.calgary.ca/foothills-land-annexation, and feedback can be submitted until May 11.
Foothills County, the City of Calgary and the Province would need to be in agreement before the lands could be incorporated into Calgary.
