GALLERY: St. Francis of Assisi students read for a cause

Students at Foothills County school don their pyjamas to raise money for their partner school in Tanzania.

Pyjama-clad students at St. Francis of Assisi Academy took part in a full morning Read-a-Thon March 31 in a fundraiser for Chalice Canada.

The Christ the Redeemer School on Highway 552 in Foothills County has been partnered with a school in Tanzania and had a goal of raising $1,000, but has already blown that out of the water.

Grade 4-6 students have raised over $5,600 and counting, and that doesn't include the Grade 1-3 and 7-9 projects, which will be totalled up later this week.

In addition to reading, the students took part in a game called Walk to Water to draw attention to the basic needs of the students the school is raising money to support.

Money raised will provide the school in Tanzania with learning materials and amenities.
