The Town of Okotoks and Foothills County are co-hosting an open house this week to discuss land use and service delivery for an area that could see significant future development.
The open house is part of the engagement process for the Joint Planning Area 3 context study. The study will help determine how land use and servicing are coordinated between the Town and County, according to information provided by Foothills County and the Town of Okotoks.
Members of the public can give input and learn more about the study during the open house at the Calvary FC Fieldhouse on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The planning area extends from the northern boundary of Okotoks to south of the hamlet of Aldersyde and consists of over 5,200 hectares, but the boundaries could be adjusted as a result of the study, said information provided by the Town and County.
Most of the land is in Foothills County, but about 640 hectares are within the Town of Okotoks.
Portions are expected to see significant growth and development.
Okotoks and Foothills County are members of the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board, and the study needs to be completed under the terms of the CMRB Growth Plan that was adopted last year.
According to the plan, the context study should include strategies for water, wastewater and storm water servicing, transportation, and cost and benefit sharing associated with development in the joint planning area.
Among other considerations, it should also include ways to share services as much as possible and strategies to see that development happens in an orderly manner.
There are four joint planning areas within the boundary of the CMRB.
