A 320-acre development in northeast Okotoks received unanimous support from civic politicians this week.
The Trilogy Plains Area Structure Plan (ASP) was adopted by council on June 26. Adoption of the ASP allows for phased development to take place on land located north of the Crystal Ridge Golf Club and Air Ranch Airport.
The area extends north to 338 Avenue E and spans the area between 48 Street E and 32 Street E.
Approximately half the land will see residential development, while the remainder will primarily be industrial.
Once completed, the area is expected to be home to over 4,000 people, while the commercial and industrial area is projected to create over 1,900 jobs.
The ASP is a guide for future, more detailed planning that needs to take place before shovels hit the ground on the project. Information from the Town of Okotoks says that includes Neighbourhood Area Structure Plans, land use designations and subdivision applications.
As part of public engagement, developer Lamont Lands hosted an information session in October 2022 and a public hearing followed in March of this year.
More information on the Trilogy Plains ASP is available on the Town's website.
Earlier this year, a separate development was approved in southwest Okotoks when council adopted the Tillotson Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan.
That 159-acre development south of Sheep River Ridge is expected to have a capacity of 3,500 to 4,000 residents once build-out is complete in 10 to 15 years.
