A 25-year-old Stavely man is facing a host of charges after being apprehended by the High River RCMP following a police pursuit.
On Nov. 6, High River RCMP quickly responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle that appeared to be lurking and checking out other vehicles.
While attempting a traffic stop, the suspect fled in the vehicle which was soon found abandoned a short distance later. Police continued the search and responded to calls of a freshly stolen vehicle in the vicinity.
Numerous police resources then assisted in the search, include the Calgary Police through HAWCS, leading to the discovery of the new stolen vehicle. A tire deflation device was then used to arrest the suspect without further incident.
Charles Wadman, a 25-year-old from Stavely, has been charged with seven counts of failure to comply with release conditions, two counts of failure to stop for a peace office while being pursued, two count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, theft of a motor vehicle, trespass by night along with numbers Traffic Safety Act offences.
Wadman was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded and his next court appearance is Nov. 22 at the Alberta Provincial Court of Justice in Okotoks.
In the wake of the incident, High River RCMP reports it has seen an increase in stolen vehicles and thefts from vehicles, the majority of which involving vehicles unlocked with valuables left inside.
High River RCMP’s list of recommendations include never leaving keys in a vehicle or leaving a vehicle to warm up with keys in the ignition, that no valuables be left and visible in a parked vehicle, to not leave garage door openers in vehicles and to double check that vehicles are locked and garage doors are closed at the end of the day.
