Okotoks and most areas of southern Alberta are under a severe thunderstorm watch.
Environment Canada says thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon that could produce strong wind gusts, hail and heavy rain.
The watch area stretches from north of Calgary and along the foothills to the U.S border and east into parts of Saskatchewan.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall, Canada’s weather agency said.
