Here’s how to celebrate Canada Day in the Foothills

Canada Day events are being held in Okotoks, Diamond Valley, DeWinton and Blackie on Monday.

There are plenty of ways to celebrate Canada Day in the Foothills on Monday. Here’s what’s happening around the region: 

OKOTOKS  

The Town of Okotoks' celebrations run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds adjacent to the Okotoks Recreation Centre. 

A drumming circle will kick off the festivities followed by various multicultural and musical performances. Fit Set Ninja, a giant mobile obstacle course, will offer fun for all ages, while other activities will include craft tents and a barbecue in support of KidSport Okotoks. 

There are also free swim sessions at the recreation centre. 

The Okotoks Dawgs take on the Swift Current 57s at 7:05 p.m., which will be followed by a fireworks display at approximately 10:30 p.m. at Bill Robertson Park across from Seaman Stadium.

DIAMOND VALLEY 

The Town of Diamond Valley is hosting a pool party and fireworks display to celebrate Canada Day. 

A toonie swim at the Dr. Lander Memorial Swimming Pool that will include games and prizes. The available swim times go from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 12:45 to 2:45 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m.  

In the evening, festivities kick off with a DJ set behind the Oilfields Arena at 8:30 p.m. Followed by fireworks once it gets dark enough. 

DEWINTON 

The 42nd annual Canada Day Pancake Breakfast at Dewinton Hall will run from 9 a.m. to noon. 

Breakfast costs $7 for adults, $5 for kids (six and under are free). There will be a DJ live on location, facepainting, collector cars and more. 

There will also be tickets sold for a quilt raffle (value of $750) with the draw at 11 a.m. and proceeds going to Rowan House.  

BLACKIE 

The hamlet of Blackie has a day full of Canada Day celebrations that kick off with a pancake breakfast at the Blackie Hall from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. 

The parade takes place at 10 a.m. and is followed by a day of fun for the whole family at Lions Park. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., there will be live entertainment, petting zoo, bouncy castles, farmers market, beer garden, car show, food trucks and more. 

The day finishes with a fireworks show at 11 p.m.
