Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival Day 7 spotlight: PFP Canada

Fire prevention agencies aren't typically known for their hot chocolate, but PFP Canada is using its entry in the Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival to educate the public on fire safety.

Day seven of the Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival is underway.

PFP Canada is taking part in the beloved festival, which has local businesses create their own unique hot chocolate drinks in a competition where people can vote to see who makes the best and most original drink.

The fire prevention agency's entry into the contest is the "Extinguished Chocolate" hot chocolate.

Rather than creating a new recipe, PFP Canada is using its participation in the festival as an opportunity to educate the public on fire safety.

Using whipped cream as a mock fire extinguisher, staff spray the hot chocolate to "extinguish" it as though they were extinguishing a fire. In the process, they follow proper protocol and give instructions on how to use a real fire extinguisher.

In addition to the community awareness and educational aspect of the drink, PFP Canada is donating all proceeds to Foothills Advocacy In Motion Society, which supports adults with developmental disabilities in rural Alberta.

The Okotoks Hot Chocolate Festival, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary, runs until Feb. 17.

More information on the event, including a list of participating businesses and an interactive map, is available here.
