According to The Globe and Mail, 65 per cent of Okotoks residents have a "strong sense of belonging to local community," which contributed to the town's ranking as number 59 on the list of most livable cities in Canada. This is due in part to the countless community-centric events Okotoks has to offer, such as Enchanted Okotoks, pictured on Sept. 14, 2024.

Okotoks has once again made The Globe and Mail's list of most livable cities.

The 2024 list ranks Okotoks at number 59, up six spots from last year's ranking as 65th.

The list, put together by Chen Wang and Mahima Singh, ranks a total of 448 Canadian communities with a population exceeding 10,000 and focuses on criteria including transportation, amenities and housing.

Of the 448 Canadian communities ranked by The Globe and Mail, Okotoks was ranked number 128 for amenities, 286 for community, 116 for demographics, 200 for economy, 249 for education, 49 for health care, 276 for housing, 20 for safety, 248 for transportation and 57 for climate.

According to the ranking, 65 per cent of Okotokians have a "strong sense of belonging to local community," while 80 per cent "have a regular health care provider."

Okotoks is listed as the sixth most liveable city to live in Alberta.

The list includes a total of nine Alberta cities and towns: Calgary is number 7 on the list, while St. Albert and Edmonton are in the top 30 and Lethbridge and Strathcona County are in the top 50. Okotoks outranks Canmore, which is just under it at number 60, and Wood Buffalo and Olds at numbers 78 and 93, respectively.

Western Canada dominated the list, with the top nine cities all located in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
