Last year's Radiothon raised $78,617.80 to support local health initiatives. This year's Radiothon is set for Thursday, June 20.

The Sheep River Health Trust, in partnership with The Eagle 100.9FM, will be throwing a Block Party, on-site and on-air, for nine hours on Thursday, June 20.

The 11th annual Radiothon, which will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., is about bringing the community together to support health and wellness.

Joining the party this year are Block Party Neighbours, businesses that are fundraising in the neighbourhood around The Eagle’s studios in Olde Towne Okotoks and donating proceeds from their sales in June to Radiothon.

“Businesses care about the health of their customers and community. But the economy is still recovering, so sponsorship isn’t always an option for the small business owner,” said Christine Oakes of the Sheep River Health Trust. “They still want to support Radiothon, so the Block Party Neighbour option was created to include the neighbourhood in Radiothon. Every size of donation counts, large or small.”

The 2024 goal is to fundraise for 10 organizations and projects, including spiritual care, music therapy, school meal program and therapy garden at Rising Sun Long Term Care.

The public is invited to the Block Party in the Eagle parking lot (22 Elizabeth St.) for hourly prizes, food trucks and a vendor market. Those that donate $25 or more will receive a sticker that says, “I DONATED TO THE RADIOTHON BLOCK PARTY” and be eligible to win a prize at the Block Party.

Donations can be made online at sheepriverhealth.ca, by phone 403-995-5400 or by texting Radiothon to 20222.

Established in 1987, the Sheep River Health Trust has a long history of supporting community health and wellness initiatives in the Foothills, funding programs that reach out to a wide variety of demographics, both geographically and socially.

The trust’s fundraising ventures serve the people of Okotoks, Diamond Valley, Longview, Millarville, Priddis, DeWinton and the rural areas between them.
