A snow pile in Okotoks is melting and residents can guess the date that it will be declared melted to win a $50 prize.

As winter turns to spring, it’s time for Okotoks’ snow pile melt contest.

The contest, run through Mayor Tanya Thorn’s Facebook page, asks contestants to guess the date that the snow pile melts.

The guess closest to the date that the pile melts, without going over, will be declared the winner, with the winner claiming bragging rights and a $50 gift card to a local business of their choice.

Guesses need to be posted as a comment to the post on Thorn’s Facebook page by March 31.

Last year's melt date was April 26, and two winners split the prize.
