The Town of Okotoks’ Water Conservation Rebate Program is now open for applications, allowing residents to save money on various items that conserve water.
Items available for rebates include drought tolerant trees and plants, fruit tree replacement, drought tolerant turf/grass, compost, mulch (bark and rock), rain barrels, soaker hoses and more.
The rebates are typically 50 per cent of the cost of the item up to a maximum annual total per household. Rebates will be reflected on a resident’s bi-monthly utility account.
The Town also provides rebates on xeriscaping and rainwater collection system projects.
Rebates are provided on a first-come, first-served basis until the fund is fully depleted.
The Town believes residents making efforts to reduce water consumption are providing a much-needed service to the community and deserve to be recognized.
Water use peaks during the summer, putting pressure on the Sheep River to provide water and on the water treatment plant to keep up with demand.
