Movie-goers line Ethel Tucker Centennial Park in their lawn chairs and blankets for an outdoor movie night on Sept. 1, 2023.

The Town of Okotoks is hosting a double-feature in Ethel Tucker Centennial Park this weekend with a pair of family-friendly movies on the bill.

On Friday, Sept. 6, Movies in the Park will feature free screenings of The Incredibles followed by Footloose

The event will have food trucks on site as well as free popcorn. Those attending are reminded to bring blankets, lawn chairs and dancing shoes.

Kicking off the evening at 6:30 p.m. will be The Incredibles followed by a dance party with Tamara Boivin to get the crowd in the mood for Footloose, the 1984 Kevin Bacon classic that’s celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Released in 2004, The Incredibles follows married superheroes Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) who are forced to assume mundane lives as Bob and Helen Parr after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government.

While Mr. Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure, and he gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Soon, Mr. Incredible is in trouble, and it's up to his family to save him.

In Footloose, Bacon’s Ren McCormack is in shock when, after moving from Chicago, he discovers the small Midwestern town he now calls home has made dancing and rock music illegal.

As he struggles to fit in, Ren faces an uphill battle to change things. With the help of his new friend, Willard Hewitt (Christopher Penn), and defiant teen Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), he might loosen up this conservative town, but Ariel's influential father, Rev. Shaw Moore (John Lithgow), stands in the way.
